American Red Cross Water Safety Courses are developed under the guidance of, and reviewed by, the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council. All American Red Cross Courses are created with the latest information available, making our Water Safety classes the perfect place to learn simple life-saving techniques that can help prepare you for most common water-related emergencies.

This 2-hour presentation teaches participants how to recognize, prevent and respond to emergencies in, on and around the water. Successful completion of this course results in a certificate of completion that has no validity period. Water Safety Today is intended for anyone with an interest in learning water safety knowledge and skills.

What you’ll learn:

  • This Water Safety certification class teaches how to recognize, prevent and respond to emergencies in, on or around the water.
  • Describe risks associated with an aquatic environment or activities, such as drowning or head, neck and spinal injuries.
  • Describe how to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies in, on and around water.
  • Recognize the importance of water safety training.
  • Describe appropriate safety practices and rules that should be in place and enforced at home pools.
  • Explain steps to take to remain safe in aquatic environments, including oceans, lakes, rivers and waterparks.
  • Learn how to perform reaching, throwing or wading assists.
  • Describe steps for preventing overexposure to the sun.
  • Describe how to prevent recreational water illnesses (RWIs).
  • Scene Safety And Assessment.

This class is appropriate for:

  • Ideal class for foster care and adoptive parents, babysitters, family members, preschool and daycare staff and anyone interested in learning about water safety
  • This class meets the State of California’s water safety certification requirement for foster care and adoptive parents
